Homework

Students will have weekly homework in my classroom. This homework does count towards grades so it is important that your child complete and turn in their homework each week. Students should be able to complete homework independently with some support from an adult. All homework needs to be completed in pencil, with neat handwriting, and name written on all papers. Spelling homework should fit on one sheet of paper (ABC order on one side, sentences on the other). Writing homework should also fit on one sheet of paper (fold in half and do two days on front and two days on back). Math homework will be a worksheet sent home and contains the homework for the entire week. Below is a breakdown of homework. It is my hope that this will help to ensure you understand what your child is to complete each week. Homework is due each day to earn Dojo Points (all turned in by FRIDAY). I will remind students to turn it in to the appropriate place but it will be their responsibility to turn it in (I will not look for it in their backpacks or folders).

Monday:

  1. Spelling- Students will receive their spelling list on Monday (or Tuesday if we do not have school on Monday) and this will be placed in their homework folder. They are to read over their words and write their words in ABC order.
  2. Writing- In the back of the homework folder will be the monthly writing calendar. Locate the appropriate day and read the writing prompt. Then write at least four complete sentences on the topic for the day. As the year progresses I will expect more advanced sentences and a complete paragraph.
  3. Math- Complete all four problems on your weekly math sheet next to Monday.

Tuesday:

  1. Spelling- Students need to use each spelling word in a complete sentence. The sentence needs to show that the student understands the meaning of the word and how to use the word correctly. I expect to see a variety of complete sentences.
  2. Writing- Locate the appropriate day and read the writing prompt. Then write at least four complete sentences on the topic for the day.
  3. Math- Complete all four problems on your weekly math sheet next to Tuesday.

Wednesday:

  1. Writing- Locate the appropriate day and read the writing prompt. Then write at least four complete sentences on the topic for the day.
  2. Math- Complete all four problems on your weekly math sheet next to Wednesday.

Thursday:

  1. Writing- Locate the appropriate day and read the writing prompt. Then write at least four complete sentences on the topic for the day.
  2. Math- Complete all four problems on your weekly math sheet next to Thursday.
  3. Spelling- Practice words for test.

Although there will be nothing to turn in for reading, I do expect students to read each night. Students need daily practice reading in order to become strong fluent readers. Even if they only have time for a short familiar picture book before bed this still helps. I read each and every night and expect my students to do the samesmiley If you have any questions or concerns regarding homework please let me know.

Thank you,

Ms. Wesney
